Obasa Takes Helm as Agege Council Chair Following Azeez Exit

Leadership Change at Agege Local Government as Chairman Steps Down Due to Health

In a significant administrative transition, the Agege Legislative Council has accepted the resignation of Hon. Tunde Azeez Disco as Chairman of Agege Local Government and appointed Hon. AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa as his successor. The change in leadership was formalized during Tuesday’s session of the 10th Assembly, presided over by Hon. Adeshina Haruna.

Citing ongoing health challenges that impacted his ability to fulfill his responsibilities, Azeez voluntarily stepped down from his position. The council members acknowledged his service and extended their wishes for his recovery.

The assembly, following thorough deliberations, unanimously endorsed Hon. AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa as the new substantive Chairman. This appointment was viewed as crucial for maintaining administrative stability and ensuring effective governance within the local government.

During the same plenary session, the council conducted a comprehensive evaluation of its committee structure and oversight mechanisms, focusing on enhancing transparency and accountability in project implementation across the jurisdiction.

The transition has received positive feedback from local political figures. Rotimi Sulaiman, a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Agege, praised Azeez’s decision as prudent. “Hon. Tunde Azeez has been long sick and his decision to resign and devote his attention to his health rather than being weighed down by the responsibility of that office is the wise decision any sane person should take,” Sulaiman stated.

Sulaiman also expressed confidence in the new chairman, saying, “the beneficiary of that excellent decision, Abdulganiyu Vinod Obasa, is a visionary young man who in the last few months of Azeez’s absence has demonstrated uncommon capacity. I think Agege is lucky to have both men.”

The Assembly has pledged to continue its focus on development-oriented initiatives for Agege residents under the new leadership structure and enhanced legislative oversight framework.
