PDP State Leaders Unite Behind Acting Chairman Damaguns Leadership

PDP State Chairmen Rally Behind Damagun, Reject Parallel Leadership

In a decisive show of unity, the State Chairmen of Nigeria’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have publicly rejected the faction led by Abdulrahaman Mohammed while affirming their support for the party’s current National Working Committee under Ambassador Umar Damagun’s leadership.

During a crucial meeting held in Abuja on Thursday, twenty-nine state chairmen gathered to address pressing party matters and establish their position on recent developments. The forum, led by Chairman Tony Aziegbemi and Secretary Edward Masha of Edo state, issued a comprehensive communique outlining their resolutions.

The state leaders enthusiastically welcomed Justice Akintola’s recent ruling, which cleared the path for the upcoming National Elective Convention scheduled for November 15-16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. They urged eligible delegates to prepare for this significant event, emphasizing the importance of electing capable and loyal individuals to the National Working Committee.

The communique praised the collaborative efforts between various party organs, specifically highlighting the effective partnership between Ambassador Damagun’s National Working Committee, Senator Bala Mohammed’s PDP Governors’ Forum, and Senator Adolphus Wabara’s Board of Trustees (BOT). This cooperation, they noted, has been instrumental in stabilizing the party during challenging times.

Taking a firm stance on party discipline, the forum called on state chapters to enforce constitutional provisions against members whose actions might threaten party unity. They emphasized that the PDP recognizes only one National Chairman in Ambassador Umar Damagun, explicitly distancing themselves from the Abdurahman-led faction.

The gathering was particularly noteworthy for including representatives from the North Central region, demonstrating broad geographical support for the current party leadership. The chairmen reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening internal democracy and rebuilding public confidence in the PDP, focusing on achieving electoral success across all levels of governance.
