PDP Board of Trustees Calls for Convention Postponement Amid Legal Battle
The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) newly reconstituted Board of Trustees (BoT) has urged for the delay of the party’s national convention until the resolution of a pending court appeal. The decision came during an emergency meeting held in Abuja on Friday, November 7.
Following a Federal High Court judgment delivered on October 31, 2025, the BoT emphasized the importance of awaiting the Court of Appeal’s verdict before proceeding with convention plans. The Board stressed that this approach demonstrates respect for ongoing judicial processes.
In a significant leadership transition, the BoT appointed Senator Mao Ohuabunwa as Chairman and Hon. Isah Dansidi as Secretary, replacing Senator Adolphus Wabara and Senator Ahmed Makarfi respectively. The change was necessitated by the former officers’ involvement in the party’s internal disputes, which potentially compromised the Board’s neutral stance.
The Board issued a comprehensive statement addressing several critical matters, including:
– Reaffirmation of the PDP’s unity and commitment to its founding principles – Recognition of the Federal High Court judgment’s supremacy over the Oyo State High Court’s interim order – Commitment to constitutional compliance and judicial respect – Emphasis on transparent and inclusive party processes
The newly installed leadership pledged to serve as the party’s moral compass, focusing on mediating conflicts and promoting unity among party members. “The BoT shall actively mediate among stakeholders, promote inclusivity, and prevent divisive tendencies that threaten party cohesion,” the official communiqué stated.
The Board also called for party-wide cooperation and reconciliation, urging members both locally and internationally to maintain unity and uphold constitutional principles. The statement emphasized the importance of legitimate democratic processes in strengthening the party’s position as a political force.
The communiqué, jointly signed by the new Chairman Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and Secretary Hon. Isah Dansidi, concluded with a commitment to ensuring the PDP remains “a beacon of democracy and hope for the nation” through fair and principled leadership.
