Onuachu Claims Turkish Super Lig MVP Award After Strong Return

Super Lig Crowns Onuachu as October’s MVP Following Turkish Resurgence

Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu has claimed the Trendyol Super Lig’s Most Valuable Player award for October 2025, marking another milestone in his remarkable Turkish football journey with Trabzonspor.

The award, determined through fan voting on the league’s official interactive platform SüperOnBir, recognizes Onuachu’s outstanding performance, including two goals and one assist in three league matches during October.

The selection process involves a comprehensive system where the Monthly MVP emerges from the Monthly Best Eleven, compiled from Weekly Best Eleven selections. The Turkish Football Federation and KONAMI oversee the verification process, ensuring the award’s credibility.

This achievement continues Nigeria’s strong presence in the monthly honors, following Victor Osimhen’s August recognition for his two-goal contribution. The award had briefly moved to Besiktas’ Rafa Silva in September before returning to Nigerian hands.

At 31, Onuachu’s Turkish career has proven transformative. His current season statistics show seven goals and one assist in 11 league appearances, complemented by Goal of the Month awards in both August and September. This success marks a significant turnaround from his challenging Premier League stint at Southampton, where he managed just four goals in 25 appearances.

The striker’s impact at Trabzonspor began during his initial six-month loan in the 2023/24 season, where he impressed with 15 goals and four assists in 21 games, leading to a permanent transfer. His career statistics now stand at an impressive 193 goals and 27 assists across 389 professional appearances, spanning leagues in Denmark, Belgium, England, and Turkey. His achievements include the prestigious Belgian Golden Shoe in January 2021, earned after scoring 33 goals for KRC Genk.

As Nigeria prepares for crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoffs, Onuachu’s form has sparked discussions about his potential return to the Super Eagles. With Nigeria facing Gabon on November 13, and the winner advancing to face either Cameroon or DR Congo, his aerial prowess and clinical finishing could prove valuable for the national team.

The MVP recognition by Super Lig fans not only validates Onuachu’s resurgence but also cements his status as one of the league’s premier strikers.
