CANAL+ Secures Historic Multi-Language Broadcast Rights for AFCON 2025

In a groundbreaking development for African football, CANAL+ has secured exclusive rights to broadcast the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco across multiple languages, marking the first time a global broadcaster will offer coverage in French, English, Portuguese, and local indigenous languages.

The announcement, made on Thursday, confirms a landmark partnership between SuperSport and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), revolutionizing how the continental tournament will be delivered to viewers across Africa.

CANAL+ Africa CEO David Mignot highlighted the significance of this development, pointing to the recent merger with MultiChoice Group as a catalyst for enhanced viewer experience. “This year’s TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 demonstrates the power and potential of our common ambition,” Mignot stated, emphasizing the unprecedented coverage planned for the tournament.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed his enthusiasm about the deal’s impact on African football’s reach. “When the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations takes place in Morocco in December, Africans everywhere — on the continent and across the diaspora — will be watching with pride,” he said.

The broadcast package includes specialized features for different regions, with Nigerian viewers and neighboring countries having access to both English and Pidgin commentary. Rendani Ramovha, Director of Sport Content for English and Portuguese-speaking Africa at MultiChoice, announced that a dedicated SuperSport AFCON channel will be created for the tournament.

To enhance the viewing experience, the coverage will feature an impressive roster of analysts, commentators, presenters, and African football legends who will provide expert insights throughout the competition. This comprehensive approach aims to deliver what Ramovha describes as “more compelling viewing” in viewers’ preferred languages.

The broadcasting initiative represents a significant step forward in making African football more accessible and engaging for fans across the continent, combining CANAL+’s global reach with localized content delivery to create what promises to be an unprecedented celebration of African football excellence.
